The scenography concept for the Q Berlin 2022 conference is dealing with a task of how to approach iconic International Congress Centre in Berlin. This building was built in the late 1970s and is representing a Gesamtkunstwerk of the highest quality of futuristic architecture, design, building technology and utopian ideology of its era.
The approach is not to compete with the interiors of ICC, but to frame and highlight the existing. Proposed interventions enter these spaces with abstract, material-less volumes and objects. They aim to purge themselves from specific design ideas and represent only typological forms. This provides a blank canvas, on which the function and content of the conference can be projected. The idea of abstraction corresponds also with the topic of the conference — “The New Unknown”. White, blank, reduced forms as a representation of uncertain future of the turbulent 2020s.
