The second Modes store situated in Milan’s Piazza Risorgimento is located on the opposite corner of the same block as its predecessor. The design strategy for this project entailed creating multiple layers of design that complement each other. One aspect of the design involves preserving large parts of the space in its original state, as the existing flooring was in good condition, thus avoiding the wasteful use of energy and resources. The second feature of the design involves utilising the existing mobile structures designed for the Assembly Project during Salone Del Mobile 2022, creating a transit space between the city and the existing store. As planned, all components from the installation would be reused in future projects by the company. The primary shape of the space is L-shaped, curving around the corner of the building. The walls on both ends of this configuration are covered with black mirrors, with the first black mirror seemingly opening up to the existing store. The black surface gradually fades into a clear mirror, reflecting the store’s lighting system behind the real space. The general powerful lighting design showcases the entire space with the goods and everyone inside, creating a sense of community. The overall store design seamlessly carries on from what has been developed for Modes since its inception. Each project varies, but builds upon the previous one while introducing the next one, thereby enabling a progressive development in the store’s aesthetic.
