“The approach taken in conceiving the store is based on a thermal interpretation of the city. Cagliari is a city located in the south of Sardinia where there are very high temperatures during the summer season when the store is actually operating at its peak. The city is predominantly built in warm-coloured local stone which absorbs the sun’s intensity during the day and accentuates the effect of the hot temperature.
The project uses this image of the city’s warm street and the sometimes appearing blue sea and sky as the backdrop to the project, and AAS reverses this colour image through materiality and colour. The project takes the exact photo negative of this idyllic touristic postcard view of the city. To invert it and use a wide variety of light blues and only touches of browner, warmer tones. The entire store was therefore conceived and built on this principle, working with cool colours and smooth surfaces for the display of goods, with warmer, natural, textural colours for areas in direct relation to the body. A light blue resin uniformly covers all surfaces, while the curtains and seating are made of warm, flexible materials.”
