MDC loft is located in a former artist studio in the center of Berlin. On the fifth floor facing north to the green Kollwitzplatz with an entire glazed window facade. The curved glass gives the impression of a classic wintergarden space, where just the plants and tropical birds are missing.
AAS created two main axis running parallel to each other – one functional axis includes the reception, kitchen and bath and the main axis consists of the long curved wintergarden window, with the flexible spaces for beauty treatments.
Each axis has two ends towards east and west. AAS underlines the east ends on both axis with “sulphur” yellow mirrors and the west ends on both axis with dark green mirrors relating to the green house and nature. As the visitor enters, they see and walk into the yellow mirrors, as they exit they are visually surrounded by the green mirrors.
The main space has flexible partitioning treatment cabins, which are made out of coloured acoustic curtains from floor to ceiling. The curtains have double-sided coloured fabric, outside green and yellow assigned to the relevant coloured mirror and inside the fabric in rose skin colour related to the body and the function of the treatment cabin. The skin coloured curtain creates a kind of cocoon. Flexible partitioning of the rooms are made of an acoustic floor to ceiling curtain that forms a diagonal axis controlling daylight and circulation. The lighting mounted on black track lines have been designed through the entire space equidistantly, which creates a uniform even light and a place to be relaxed in the center of the city.
Influenced by tropical birds and MDCs approach to saturated colours. The reception desk area combines these sulphur yellows and poppy greens which is the same as the big diagonal curtain separation. AAS designed thru special colour combinations a special space that opens up to the sky.
