The space is divided into two distinct parts, which depart from the conventional layout of galleries and stores. The gallery is adorned with the vibrant red 032c, mirroring the aesthetic of the gallery in Berlin, but also reflecting the work of AAS, who have been developing the concept of monochrome as a material. When a unique colour is employed, upon initial viewing and subsequent familiarity, it ceases to be perceived as mere colour and is instead seen as a material. The store area, on the other hand, features a minimalist design devoid of decoration, characterised by a simple shell crafted from raw concrete materials usually used for facades.
The decision to arrange the functions along the diagonal of the space was made to maximise the building’s potential, utilising the two glazed facades for the gallery area and the two solid walls for the store. The gallery side serves as “vitrine”, with the store positioned behind it and separated by a half-height diagonal wall. The mirrors replicate the corner shape of the space and serve various functions behind them, such as dressing rooms and storage areas. While natural light filters through the gallery’s facade, unique artificial lighting unifies both spaces, creating a cohesive atmosphere throughout.
