This fashion store is situated in a well known luxury hotel in the heart of Munich, Hotel Bayerischer Hof. It is in a part of the city where the works of contemporary architects, such as Herzog & de Meuron and Andrée Puttman, are intermingled with more traditional 19th century architecture. The shop carries the work of several high profile fashion designers from New York and Antwerp. The space itself is conceived as one large display window – an effect created mainly by a monolithic screen, whose extraordinary material properties generate an ambiguous play with the spatial limits. This playfulness is a theme that comes across in the design of the interior as well. Mirrors, surfaces of high gloss lacquer, carefully articulated nuances of depth, monochrome surfaces in dark purple, and the deliberate use of light and shadow further accentuate a lively interaction between surface and structure.
